Harry Potter: 10 Character Names You Didn't Realise Were Huge Clues
6. Fleur Delacour
The quarter-Veela representative of the French school Beuxbatons (also with a highly relevant name pretty much meaning ‘good’ or ‘beautiful’ wands in French) has a typically-French sounding name. That’s all that JK Rowling needed for her French character, surely. However, her name roughly translates to ‘flower of the heart.’
Known initially for her beauty and inherent attractiveness and perceived as the weakest link in the tournament, Fleur goes on to prove her heart.
She is carefully developed into a significant character who proves herself not only capable of fighting in the Battle of Hogwarts and hiding Harry and friends from Voldemort in her own home but also, most importantly, of surprising the majority of the characters when she proves that she will still love her man even when his handsome face has been mutilated by a werewolf. ‘Of the heart’ indeed.
