Universal Orlando Resort's Mardi Gras: Every Food Booth Reviewed
Italy
The Italy booth at the Mardi Gras International Flavors of Carnaval only had two food offerings, instead focusing more on alcoholic offerings. This booth had one savoury item, Roman Suppli, whilst the sweet treat was Zabaglione with Berries.
We chose the Roman Suppli, $7.99 balls of cheese filled risotto that came with a vodka sauce and red pepper aioli.
The flavours were really good together and fans of arancini will definitely want to give this option a try. The one we got was a little cold and overly crisp as if it had been cooked a little while ago. Yet it was clear that if you got this item fresh it would be a winner.
Puerto Rico
Over at the Puerto Rico booth, there was three different food options to choose from. With Pastelón, Bacalaitos and Pastelitos de Guayaba. The booth also had the Puerto Rican famously developed drink Piña Colada, along with a non-alcoholic Fanta version.
Here we decided to try the Pastelón. At $8.99 it was again the most expensive item on the menu, but was also suitable for those with a gluten sensitivity. The dish was a casserole of sweet plantain, picadillo beef topped with Edam cheese.
For $8.99 the portion size was HUGE. If you didn't share this item, it could easily be the perfect lunch. It was definitely moist and not over cooked. If you're a fan of plantain, you won't be disappointed in this dish.
