What If You Only EVER Ate Fruit?
2. The History Of Fruitarianism & Steve Jobs
This controversial diet has been followed by many people throughout history. People of the Jainism faith - an ancient religion originating in India - consciously avoid anything considered violent in their lives. As such, they opt for a more fruitarian based diet, specifically eating fruit which has fallen to prevent them from seizing produce from plants in a hostile fashion.
More recently, Steve Jobs was an on-and-off-again follower of the fruitarian diet. As well as being celebrated as a technological genius, Jobs was also well known for his obsessive diets, with him once declaring that his diet was responsible for him not needing to shower daily.
Unfortunately, Steve Jones passed away in 2011 from pancreatic cancer. It is unclear what caused Jobs’ fatal illness, and it could be numerous factors from frequent high exposure to wi-fi waves to genetics. However, his diet could also have played a tremendous role in his premature death.
When getting into character for the role of Apple’s founder in the 2013 biopic, Jobs, Ashton Kutcher switched his dietary plan to a predominantly fruit-based programme. In a press release following the movie’s release, Kutcher revealed that his following the fruitarian diet led to him becoming sick, and just two weeks before filming was scheduled to begin, he had to be admitted to hospital.
While in the hospital with crippling back pain, it was revealed to Kutcher that his pancreatic was ‘out of whack.’ Fearing a repeat of Jobs’ fate, the actor stopped following the diet immediately.
One of the primary functions of the pancreas is regulating blood sugar. Eating nothing but fruit will cause the body’s blood sugar levels to spike and plummet with each meal, creating more stress on the pancreas. This is a possible cause for Jobs’ death, and also increases the possibility of fruitarians becoming diabetic.
