9 More Star Wars Subplots That Went Literally Nowhere
2. Mace Windu's Lightsaber
Everybody talks about the still-unsolved mystery of where Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong'o) got the Skywalker lightsaber, but y'know what other laser sword-related conundrum everyone forgets? Mace Windu's (Samuel L. Jackson) lightsaber.
The last we saw of the distinctive purple-bladed weapon, it ended up tossed out that window shortly before Windu himself was at Palpatine's hand.
And despite Star Wars' tendency to keep track of such things, the canon location of Mace's lightsaber hasn't been confirmed.
The now decanonised book "The Last of the Jedi: Return of the Dark Side" did reveal that Mace's broken saber was found on the streets of Coruscant and sold to Senator Sano Sauro, who displayed it in his office. Again, though, it's now confined to the non-canon Legends lore.
Though the actual location of the saber remains a mystery, we did almost get an answer in the sequel trilogy, as Colin Trevorrow's original version of Star Wars Episode IX - entitled Duel of the Fates - saw General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) kill himself with a "prized vintage lightsaber" with a purple blade.
