10 Greatest Star Trek Convention Moments

7. All Aboard The Good Ship Mariner!

So, this one might be a bit of a cheat if you're a terrestrial purist, but, as Garak said to Doctor Bashir — let's go cruising!

Star Trek: The Cruise will sail into its seventh incarnation in 2024, but this giant week-long floating convention (and then some!) that began in 2017 wasn't the first of its kind. In May 1987, 'Trek Cruise' set off east from Miami to the Bahamas, with aboard the likes of Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, James Doohan, DeForest Kelley, and George Takei in a lobster hat. The same year, another Trek Cruise set off west, and in the years that followed, until 2007, numerous cruises took place under the names 'Sea Trek' and 'SlayerCruise' as part of Vulkon Entertainment.

One of the highlights from the most recent of seafaring shenanigans on the Royal Caribbean's Mariner of the Seas has to be a Star Trek: Enterprise panel during Star Trek: The Cruise V in 2022. Apparently, this little Q&A session with John Billingsley, Anthony Montgomery, Connor Trinneer, and moderator Chase Masterson took place after an open bar party, proving that Latin adage about wine and truth.

Questions and answers centred around Trip and Connor's underwear, those steamy (or otherwise) decon scenes, Billingsley's squawking audition for Phlox, Montgomery's thoughts on the cancellation, nipple issues, Florida accents, sexual relations, and ended on a comparative question about the members of the cast.

Jack Kiely is a writer with a PhD in French and almost certainly an unhealthy obsession with Star Trek.
