Star Trek: 10 Secrets About The 25th Century Fleet You Need To Know

We've already explored the workings of the USS Enterprise-G in its own post but another design from Bill Krause turns up in Picard's third season.

As with many of the show's ships, it's a reworking of another design. In this case, the Dunderstadt Class.  A more unusual concept, the Intrepid pops up to bring Commander Ro to the Titan-A and again as part of the fleet at Frontier Day.  Designed by Krause and Dave Blass, it too received the 25th Century upgrades in a similar vein to the Shangri-La Class. The Intrepid gained new nacelles but retained that drooped secondary hull from the original Wasp Class design.

What makes this design even more unusual is the fact it has the warp engines attached to the rear of the primary hull even though there is a secondary hull present albeit unusually shaped.

Somehow it was repaired enough to feature on Frontier Day even after having a shuttle crash into one of its engines in Imposters. The fleet graphic also indicates there was at least one other Dunderstadt Class at the celebrations for Picard's finale in the form of the USS Trumbull. It was named after Star Trek: The Motion Picture visual effects supervisor Doug Trumbull.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
