10 Actors Who FREAKED OUT When Their TV Character Died
6. Nicollette Sheridan Sued The Show For Killing Edie Off - Desperate Housewives
Nicollette Sheridan played the sassy, self-centered Edie Britt on Desperate Housewives, until the character was killed off in the show's fifth season when she crashed her car into an electric pole.
Yet the story of Sheridan's exit from the show is a complicated and unsettling one, which ultimately led to her suing both series creator Marc Cherry and network ABC.
The year after her death aired, Sheridan filed a $20 million lawsuit alleging that Cherry assaulted her on-set and, when she reported this to ABC, they fired her in response, leading to Edie's infamous death scene (where Sheridan is putting in a notable lack of effort, it has to be said).
ABC however claimed they found no wrongdoing on Cherry's part, the other main cast members all threw their support Cherry's way, and the various charges declared by Sheridan were ultimately found to be without legal merit.
Which ever side of the fence you fall down on here, it's clear that Edie's death is mired in controversy, and Sheridan was less-than-thrilled at losing the gig.
