10 Actors Who Have Been On Both Star Trek And Stargate
7. Marina Sirtis
Marina Sirtis is of course well known for her role of Deanna Troi, ship's counsellor to the USS Enterprise D and then E, but she was also a guest star in a single episode of Stargate SG-1. In the fourth season episode Watergate, she played Russian scientist Dr. Svetlana Markov, who recruited SG-1 to help her investigate the Siberian base where the Russians had been operating their own Stargate program, unbeknownst to the SGC.
Amusingly, she auditioned for the role against seventeen other actresses who naturally had Russian accents, but was chosen over all of them, possibly because she's so well known from her role on Star Trek. While The Next Generation often struggled to find roles for Counsellor Troi to fill (other than sit next to Captain Picard and say 'they're hiding something, Captain'), she was a regular and reassuring presence on the ship.
Indeed, it says something for a vision of the future where one of the key command officers of such a vessel is a mental health expert. Somewhat reassuring.
Aside from Star Trek, Marina Sirtis has had a smattering of other TV and film roles, notably the divisive Crash and as a recognisable voice in the first Mass Effect game.
