Clancy Brown is a highly respected character actor best known for playing a plethora of villains in movies and TV, most famously the detestable Captain Byron Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption.

Brown is generally pretty recognisable through both his face and voice, though you couldn't be blamed for missing him during his appearance in The Mandalorian's sixth episode, "The Prisoner," where he played the Devaronian strongman known as Burg.

Though there's no official makeup breakdown available online, it's clear that, beyond Brown's face being painted red, it was also layered with considerable prosthetics to reshape his ears, alter his jawline and the musculature of his face, add scars to his skin, and also implant horns on his head.

Brown is an actor with a menacing, towering physical presence without even a sliver of makeup, but here it certainly did a fantastic job of convincingly transforming him into an alien badass who's definitely seen some s**t.
