5. Katherine Heigl Declines Emmy Consideration Due To Grey's Anatomy Material Not Warranting It
A year on from picking up an Emmy for her work as Izzie Stevens in hit medical drama Grey's Anatomy, Katherine Heigl suddenly decided in 2008 that she didn't deserve to be nominated for one of the awards that year because she didn't feel the material she'd been given was worthy of such an honour (via EW).
However, in the years that would follow Heigl's infamous decision to decline Emmy consideration that year - and in the process criticise the level of writing being handed to her on the show - the star did acknowledge on The Howard Stern Show how difficult it must have been for the writers to try and craft "juicy, dramatic, emotional material" for 12 series regulars (via EW).
And while Heigl would eventually leave the show two seasons later, she was quick to apologise to showrunner Shonda Rhimes for publicly calling out the quality of the writing on the series.
The Knocked Up star also noted earlier this year in a Variety chat with Grey's co-star Ellen Pompeo (via ET) how she didn't realise she'd receive such a strong reaction for her comments and it had taken nearly a decade for her to tune out the noise and realise that, while Heigl did think she was "so naive" in the way she handled the scenario, she wasn't "unprofessional" or "difficult" for speaking her mind.
