10 Awful Characters From Otherwise Excellent TV Shows

7. Rocky DeSantos - Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

rock de santos It's a scary thought for anyone who grew up in the 90's, as this year the Power Rangers franchise turns twenty years old. Though its long run has seen the series produce a large number of different shows and switch from Saban to Disney and back again, the most famous installment is still, of course the original, Might Morphin Power Rangers. Millions of us were captivated as Zordon summoned five teenagers with attitude to help protect the earth, and millions of parents sighed in horror as the Green Rangers arrival meant there were more toys for them to buy. The show was a smash hit- which only meant one thing for the young actors that starred in it- more money. However Saban apparently didn't share this idea, which lead to the departure of the actors who played the Red, Black and Yellow rangers. Whilst Zack and Trini were missed, the real hit was the loss of Jason, the Red ranger and leader of the Power Rangers. Tommy the Green and then White ranger was the most popular character in the show, but the absolute shafting that Jason received was difficult to swallow, even for kids as young as the Power Rangers fanbase. Yet things got worse when Jason, Zack and Trini left to attend a peace conference in Switzerland and we were introduced to their replacements. The arrival of Adam, Aisha and Rocky ushered in the second era of the Might Morphin Power Rangers, and things were never the same again. Though he was a completely different character than his predecessor- Adam is generally considered to be the best of the replacements and Aisha was an adequate, if not spectacular addition- but then we have Rocky. I get that Tommy was the leader now, but to see this guy running around in Jason's Red Ranger suit was just plain wrong. Tommy or not, the red ranger should be the leader of the rangers and Rocky just never gave the impression that he could carry the weight of leadership. Jason was a hero to an entire generation of kids and Rocky was the poor mans replacement who got to use his powers and Zord, yet took a backseat to not only Tommy but Adam as well. When the series finally shifted to Zeo, Rocky made a decent Blue ranger, but in Mighty Morphin, wearing the iconic suit- it never felt right.
