10 Banned Anime From Around The World (And Why)

5. Kite - Norway

Kite Anime
Arms Corporation

Kite is undoubtedly a tough watch. The flick (comprised of two OVAs stitched together) tells the story of a young girl (Sawa) who loses her parents to a brutal double murder. In that kind of situation, what's a girl to do but become a bloodthirsty assassin working under corrupt police detectives? Oh, and don't forget her gun, which has exploding bullets to plant inside her victims.

You'd probably think the film is controversial thanks to its focus on violence. However, that's not why Norway deemed it unable to be distributed. No, that came as a result of the horrific acts of sexual assault in the title, all centred on the underage protagonist.

See, the detective who took the young Sawa under his wing also formed an inappropriate sexual relationship with her, and Kite does not shy away from showing it. This was deemed child pornography by Norway, and thanks to their strict rules about such matters, it was quickly banned.

The flick is still available in plenty of places, but understandably is heavily censored.
