10 Best Animated Fantasy TV Shows Of All Time

7. Dungeons And Dragons

There really is nothing you can’t make an on screen adaptation of. This one right here, started life as a role-playing board game. However we are thankful Marvel Productions and TSR decided to come together and turn it into a show, because what we got was nothing short of an action-adventure classic.

Six kids board a seemingly harmless gimmick ride at an amusement park. However, after entering the tunnel, they don’t quite emerge back out into the park. Instead, the ride takes them across dimensional barriers and into the magical world of Dungeons and Dragons. And the stakes in this game were very real.

Hank, Diana, Presto, Eric, Sheila and Bobby are then approached by an old man calling himself the Dungeon Master and are each given specific items and roles. Their ultimate goal; find a way back home.

A fantasy game is not complete without its antagonists. And this show certainly didn’t lack for magical foes. Chief among them was the evil wizard Venger. The plot sees our heroes battle him on numerous occasions, along with other obstacles, dragons and personal demons, while still managing to come to the aid of anyone in trouble. We see the characters evolve in various ways and fall in love with them more and more as the show goes on.

Even the ending was meant to leave us on a tantalizing cliff hanger, with the kids, now having found their way back, uncertain of whether to leave or stay and fight the evil that still roamed these lands. All in all, the show offered a brilliant depiction of overcoming one’s inner evils, showing us that there is always hope if we try.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
