10 Best Animated Fantasy TV Shows Of All Time

2. The Dragon Prince

If anyone thought good old fashioned, family-oriented fantasy shows were dead in the modern era, then you were more wrong than Ezran surrendering his throne to Viren. Created by former Avatar: The Last Airbender writer Aaron Ehasz, this show recaptured everything good about the genre and packaged it with just enough modern sentiments to create magic both in storyline and in terms of quality.

We got all the classical tropes like evil wizards threatening the world, two young princes embarking on a journey to stop him, a forbidden love, and of course, dragons, lots of em. But what makes the show so good is how they are able to incorporate all this into a narrative that focuses on the more real life issues such as geopolitical conspiracies, wars created for the purpose of serving those in power and history not being a simple case of who’s right and who’s wrong.

The plot twists and character turns are also perfectly timed, making the viewer buy into the story even more. By the time the final battle concludes, we were all left shedding tears of joy. The good guys triumphed and the victory felt as much the viewer’s, as it was the characters’. Here’s hoping the show returns in the future with more of the same.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
