Episode: 'Welcome To Hong Kong'

Katie Cassidy was always going to be in the Top 5 of this list ever since she delivered that unexpectedly moving performance at the beginning of the year in 'Past Sins', but her offering in Season 8's 'Welcome To Hong Kong' stood out even more - and given the magnitude of the first, that's really saying something.

Laurel Lance (a.k.a. Black Canary) may have avoided death by anti-matter but she was left with a serious case of survivor's guilt as she mourned the destruction of her entire universe. The silver lining in that, however, is that it provided resident heavy-hitter (and leading lady) Cassidy to showcase why she's carried much of the show over the years.

There's no particular scene to highlight here, because she effectively channeled Laurel's feelings of grief, guilt, resentment and heartbreak every time she was on-screen, but if there's anything we can learn from this, it's that the Arrowverse's original leading lady has always been its most underappreciated performer. She was, quite simply, outstanding.
