Are you Afraid of the Dark exists in a very similar vein to Goosebumps, it was a children's horror show that delivered on fun and fear and brought many youngsters into the realm of the genre. It ran for eight seasons and accumulated ninety-four episodes. The show was aired on YTV and Nickelodeon.

The anthology nature of the series worked in a very satisfying manner, with a holding structure based around a group of youths calling themselves The Midnight Society. These kids would tell each other stories that the audience would see played out. This was a great set up as it allowed the audience to feel like they were a part of this collective society and gave the series a unique feel to other anthologies.

The episodes themselves were a tonne of fun and mostly ended up telling stories that ended happily and thus gave its viewers an overall great experience. Some particularly notable episodes include The Tale of the Shiny Red Bicycle, The Tale of the Unfinished Painting and The Tale of the Midnight Madness.

The series was set for a feature-length film which sadly never happened, but saw a revival in 2019 in the form of a miniseries. However, to experience this show properly, you need to go back to its classic setting.
