What self-respecting horror fan doesn't love an anthology series? And perhaps the single best in recent years is Guillermo del Toro's eight-part Cabinet of Curiosities.

Del Toro, who produces and presents the series while also co-writing two episodes, has gathered a stable of respected genre filmmakers - such as Vincenzo Natali (Cube), David Prior (The Empty Man), Panos Cosmatos (Mandy), and Jennifer Kent (The Babadook) - to deliver their own bite-sized horror stories.

Though not every story is a barnstorming home-run, there's an extremely impressive consistency to the overall quality, and not a single dud among the bunch.

The easy highlights among the exceptionally produced shorts are surely Prior's chilling "The Autopsy" - touting a killer F. Murray Abraham performance - and Cosmatos' mind-melting "The Viewing."

With an enviable ensemble cast - including Tim Blake Nelson, Kate Micucci, Dan Stevens, Ben Barnes, Crispin Glover, Rupert Grint, Peter Weller, and Sofia Boutella - it's an embarrassment of riches from top to bottom.

And better yet, del Toro is already gathering his team of directors for season two, which is simply awaiting a greenlight from Netflix.
