10 Best Lost Plot Twists
3. "Sawyer's My Name Too."
There were few characters in Lost as repugnantly unsympathetic as Anthony Cooper. Responsible for stealing Locke’s kidney and throwing him out of a window, the unscrupulous conman had blighted his son’s life before the Island. But despite Cooper’s utter lack of repentance, Locke still found himself unable to kill his father, even though it prevented him from taking his place among the Others. Fortunately for Locke, he wasn’t the only person on the Island who wanted Cooper dead…
On the basis of information received from a helpful Richard, Locke lured Sawyer to the Black Rock under the pretence of having captured Ben. Once Sawyer had been trapped with Cooper in the ship’s brig, the two began to talk, leading to the jaw-dropping revelation that Cooper had been “Tom Sawyer”, the conman responsible for depriving Sawyer of his parents.
While Lost’s twists were almost always
memorable, few carried such personal implications for its characters. The
following scene, in which Sawyer gave a callous Cooper the letter that he’d
been carrying since his childhood, and finally took his vengeance, represented
a huge turning point for both Sawyer and Locke, and was an unforgettably
intense piece of television.
