10 Best New TV Shows Nobody Is Watching
9. Class Of '07
Australia’s Class of ‘07 is another entry into the surprisingly buoyant drama of apocalypse comedy. Here, the heavy topic of the end of the world is paired with the even heavier topic of lingering resentment from your high school days.
The always-excellent Emily Browning stars as Zoe, a young woman whose dramatic life culminates in a disastrous, meme-worthy moment on a dating show. Living off the grid while the heat dies down, she stumbles across her ten-year high school reunion, right as Armageddon begins.
Naturally, everyone at the reunion reverts to type, with the popular kids, dorks et al assuming their standard roles, only with the added stakes of imminent global destruction. The claustrophobia and tension leads to a fantastic ensemble comedy, with Browning playing off especially well against Caitlin Stasey as bully Saskia, who seizes power gleefully.
The whip-smart and pacy episodes make this perfect pick-me-up TV, even it if may induce flashbacks to school days (and, perhaps, flash forwards to end days).
