10 Best New TV Shows Nobody Is Watching
8. Minx
On its 2022 debut, Minx felt like a show that could be destined for big things. The world was crying out for a new sitcom with a bit of bite, and this ‘70s-set show had a titillating backdrop in a women’s erotic magazine. With the excellent Ophelia Lovibond in the lead role and New Girl’s beloved Jake Johnson in support, Minx had a lot of potential to succeed.
Alas, it simply fell through the cracks. While warmly received by critics, with the bickering chemistry between Lovibond and Johnson a particular highlight, the numbers were never there. HBO initially renewed it for a second season, before retracting the offer.
The show was picked up for a second season by Starz, who quietly put out some of the best comedy of the day (“quietly”, unfortunately, being the operative word), and the second season was even better than the first, seeing Lovibond’s Joyce ascend in the thrusting world of ‘70s smut.
For fans of story-driven comedy with warmth and bite in equal measure, Minx is definitely one to check out. Its status is up in the air at present, but from the period costumes to the grubby subject matter, this is a fun world in which to dwell.
