8. The Unlucky Winner Is...
The Trotter family don't really go on holiday, being as hard up as they are. But they've managed to get away a few times to Benidorm (where Grandad got himself arrested), Miami (where they were held hostage by the mafia) and Holland (where they got caught up in diamond smuggling). Basically, holidays with the Trotters are never very relaxing.
Their trip to Majorca is no exception, as Rodney ends up unknowingly winning a painting competition with a piece of art he made when he was 14. Del, Rodney and Cassandra arrive only for Del to drop the bomb that the contest organisers believe Rodney to still be 14 years old, and for his brother and girlfriend to be his dad and step-mum.
Some of the best comedy in the series comes from poor Rodders being utterly humiliated and in this particular episode it's just relentless. From being fawned over by a 13 year old, not being able to enjoy "private time" with Cassandra, being forced into the hotel's "Groovy Gang" and losing to children in a skateboard race. He can't even enjoy a drink and a smoke in the privacy of his hotel room.
Nicholas Lyndhurst's facial expressions and reactions are absolute gold, and the way Del takes advantage of every opportunity is classic Fools at its very best.
