10 Best Sci-Fi Comedy TV Series You Need To Watch

3. Red Dwarf

The Orville
BBC

An absolute classic of both British comedy and science fiction, no list like this is remotely complete without discussing Red Dwarf. First airing in 1988, various series have continued to be produced and aired over the years, right up until today. It is, without question, one of the most respected science fiction franchises of all time.

Late in the 22nd Century, a radiation leak forced Dave Lister into suspended animation. The only survivor, Dave stayed in that state for three million years. Once out, he discovered he's the last human being in the universe. Dave's accompanied by the hologram of his former best friend, Rimmer, and a being named Cat who evolved from Dave's old cat.

Red Dwarf is, first and foremost, a character driven comedy told in front of a science fiction backdrop. It does an excellent job of interpreting those relevant science fiction tropes in a meaningful way that benefits the humor. As far as live action sci-fi comedy series go, Red Dwarf is the best of the best.
