10 Best Star Trek Fight Scenes
5. Spock Vs. Khan - Star Trek Into Darkness
There's a lot that can be said about Star Trek Into Darkness, though one aspect where it most certainly doesn't skimp is the fight scenes. Benedict Cumberbatch commits wholeheartedly to the role of Khan, displaying a glee in determined despotism that radiates from the screen. While the scenes aboard the Vengeance are brutal enough, it's the climactic fight between Khan and Spock that slaps its way to this list.
There's no other way to describe this showdown: it's epic. Zachary Quinto offers a version of Spock that had yet to be seen at that time. This Spock is fuelled by rage, spurred on by the apparent death of Kirk. He immediately beams from the ship to the surface, hunting the genetically engineered madman through San Francisco.
The fight is shocking. They are both playing to kill, with head-crushing, bone-breaking, desperation. It's likely that, were it not for Uhura's interruption, Spock would have killed Khan on the spot. The scene was entirely out of character for Spock as we knew him, though, in a way, this adds to the pathos of the moment. Spock never loses his cool like this - watching it happens, there was less cheering in the theatre. Rather, there was a creeping sense of dread. We wanted him to bring Khan in, yes. But, at what cost?
