8. Family Reunion - And Farewell

Star Wars Rebels Ahsoka Darth Vader

The double-length series finale of Star Wars Rebels ends the show on a high note.

In order to take Lothal back from the Empire, Ezra assembles a team made up of nearly every Rebels guest star from the previous seasons, including the crew of the Ghost (Rex and Kallus), clones Gregor and Wolfe, the ever sketchy Vizago, Sabine's old friend Ketsu Onyo, young pilot Mart Mattin, prominent Lothal Rebel Ryder Azadi, and - of course - Hondo Ohnaka, the worst pirate you've ever heard of (with apologies to Jack Sparrow).

Ezra and his dream team invade Imperial HQ, only to be confronted by Thrawn. Thrawn introduces Ezra to Palpatine, who promises him his family back if he yields. Though tempted, Ezra turns on Thrawn, summoning the Purgills from the episode The Call to defeat him, completing the Bendu's prophecy from Season 3. However, the victory is short lived, as the Purgills jump into hyperspace, taking Ezra and Thrawn with them into the unknown reaches of space.

This episode uses various callbacks perfectly, with all the guest stars and recurring elements popping in. It's filled with emotional moments, such as Ezra's separation from his friends, the (second) death of Gregor, and the revelation that Hera and Kanan have a son named Jacen. Everyone's ending, such as Hera and Rex's military success, Zeb and Kallus's new life on Lira San, and Sabine and Ahsoka's search for Ezra, brilliantly shows how far the characters have come over the preceding four seasons.
