10 Best Superhero TV Shows Of 2018 (So Far)

Legion Season 2
FX

After stunning us all last season, Legion made its return to FX earlier this year for another mind-bending ride. Focusing on schizophrenic mutant, David Haller, the show is tied to the X-Men movie franchise. Its debut outing received critical acclaim and, for the most part, Season 2 managed to maintain that high standard.

Employing well-executed narrative techniques like the unreliable narrator trope throughout, the show masterfully plays with reality and always leaves us with more questions than answers. But none of it ever comes off as contrived as we're naturally left craving answers, and are always eager to wait for them. Moreover, this season explores important issues such as morality, highlighting that the characters are flawed and, in spite of the supernatural elements, this makes them all the more relatable. And Dan Stephens once again turns in a phenomenal performance as Haller.

Legion's strength lies in the fact that it isn't really a superhero show. It's more of a psychological thriller masquerading as a superhero series, posing interesting questions through mind-bending monologues and incredible visuals. While the second season may not be quite as erratic as the first, it once again ticks all the irrational boxes that we've come to expect - highlighting just how exceptional the writing in this thrilling show really is.
