10 Best Superhero TV Shows Of 2018 (So Far)
3. Black Lightning
The CW's newest arrival couldn't be less like the network's other superhero shows. Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, Black Lightning focused on high school principal Jefferson Pierce. Once the vigilante known as Black Lightning, Pierce gave up his heroics to focus on his family. But when criminal gang The 100 get out of control, he is forced to resurrect the electrifying hero in order to take them down.
With a strong premise, compelling characters and an intimidating Big Bad, there was a lot to love about the dark new superhero show. Lightning-induced theatrics aside, the show was less like a network superhero series and more like a cable crime drama. Moreover, it highlighted that not all superhero shows have to be light-hearted craziness, reminding us that they can deal with real issues in an authentic way. With a grim and realistic approach, Black Lightning was every bit the gritty and unnerving crime series that it promised to be.
