10 Best TV Characters With No Name

6. Agent 99 (Get Smart)

Its Always Sunny Waitress
NBC

The beloved Get Smart ‘60s show was a landmark in TV comedy, stretching the boundaries of what a sitcom could hope to be. Set in a wildly wacky spy network, episodes weren’t constrained by location and character, able to go wherever and do whatever they wanted to. And in all that excitement, the producers never got around to naming the co-lead, played by Barbara Feldon.

In fairness, this one actually makes some sense. Agent 99 was a government spook, tasked with battling dangerous, connected groups. She was the consummate pro, security minded at all times. This was in stark contrast to her partner, and later husband, Maxwell Smart, who bungled through missions dropping his name and gaining notoriety in the fashion of most fictional intelligence operatives.

99 is often asked to play straight man to Smart’s lunacy, and while it’s a bit of a thankless role at times, Feldon excels in the role, and is always able to bring a little extra when asked to chuck in the rare bit of dramatic(ish) storytelling.
