10 Best TV Episodes Of 2019

7. Veep - Veep

Selina Meyers Veep
HBO

An Emmys mainstay and critical darling, there was a huge amount of pressure on Veep to go out on top when its final season aired earlier this year (especially after a two-year hiatus where so much of the political landscape in the real world changed dramatically), and fortunately for viewers it saved the very best episode for last.

The series finale saw Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Selina ultimately win the Presidency for a full term, and as the show is want to do, drew attention to just how much power corrupts everything in the end by flaying away the remnants of any good she might have had left.

Political satire is oversaturated in the current age, but Veep has remained as relevant as ever, and this well observed finale is all about the consequences and destruction caused across these seven seasons - to the point where it even jumps to the future to play its cards in full regarding the effects of Selina's actions (in a way that never falters on the show's signature sense of humour).

It's not totally hopeless, but Veep remained as intelligent and as biting as ever, even at the grave of its main character.
