10 Best TV Episodes Of 2019
6. The Face Of Depression - Bojack Horseman
Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few years, you probably know by now that Netflix's Bojack Horseman has proved itself as one of the most important TV shows this decade, live-action or otherwise.
As it faces its final run of episodes, there have been plenty of standout instalments that the second half of the final season needs to live up to, but thankfully The Face of Depression, the penultimate episode of this first half, sits right alongside the very best.
This is an episode that trades on the baggage and weight both the audience and characters have amassed over the years spent with the show. It chronicles Bojack's return from rehab and his immediate displacement in life, as he's forced to reckon with the person he was and the person he wants to be while taking responsibility for his actions for once. The question is though: just because he finally wants to be better, will the people he's wronged let him?
Haunted by ghosts of his prior deeds, The Face of Depression is all about the history between these characters coming to a head, delivered in the kind of pathos-filled way Bojack does best. In a lot of ways this episode felt like a series finale; it's melancholy, funny, and furthers the central characters in ways few shows would dare to commit to.
