Arguably the greatest footballer of all time in terms of his influence and legacy on the beautiful game, Diego Maradona has never been a stranger to controversy. From the infamous 'Hand of God', his failed drug test after a very dodgy celebration against Greece in the 1994 World Cup, all the way to yet another dodgy celebration from the stands when Argentina beat Nigeria at the 2018 edition of the tournament, he's a character that loves to put on a show.

Maradona in Mexico is a Netflix-produced series that follows this charismatic character as he takes the reigns of the football club Dorados de Sinaloa in the second tier of Mexican football. Taking over a team that was financially in ruins and sitting dead last in the standings, the whole show is an absolute rollercoaster of a ride and initially looked set to be a PR disaster with the region being known for its cartel and drug issues, two things Maradona is all too familiar with.

In reality however, Maradona in Mexico is a touching and insightful look at what this legendary icon is really like off the pitch away from the cameras, and how a side at their lowest point can come together and create something truly extraordinary.

As well as being a wild, fascinating look at Maradona himself, the show is also a great view for fans of the beautiful game who want to broaden their horizons and take a look at what football looks like in other less represented regions of the world.

Horror fan, gamer, all round subpar content creator. Strongly believes that Toad is the real hero of the Mario universe, and that we've probably had enough Batman origin stories.
