4. My So Called Life

I have a confession to make. I did not watch My So Called Life. I have seen a handful of episodes but it is just one of those big holes of knowledge that we all know we shouldn't have like state capitols or how to change your oil. Having said that, I think the fact that I put it on this list shows an acknowledgement of the cultural impact that it had. Without watching this show, I know it belongs on this list. First of all, it introduced the world to Claire Danes, and we are all thankful for that. Secondly, one thing that was evident right away in what I did see is the fact that they did not speak down to their audience of primarily teenagers. The creators treated them like adults and the show took itself seriously making the character the focus and not the lesson. Regardless of being true or not, isn't that what every young adult really wants?
