4. Queen Aslaug

Ragnar Lothbrok Death Vikings
History

As cunning as she was, Aslaug always had a trick up her sleeve even in the face of death.

Aslaug was Ragnar's second wife after Lagertha could no longer produce any more children. Despite having Bjorn, Ragnar wanted what was promised to him by the Gods - more sons!

This decision sealed the fates of his loved ones and would have repercussions years into the future. Lagertha may have forgiven Ragnar, but she would never truly forgive the woman who stole him from her.

Over a decade later when Aslaug comfortably sat on Ragnar's throne in his absence, Lagertha decided to take back what she believed was hers by right.

Storming the city of Kattegat, Lagertha's forces easily overwhelmed the small guard left there. Knowing she was beaten, Aslaug made a final gambit for her life, stating that if she is allowed to go free then neither she nor her sons would seek vengeance for what happened.

Lagertha doesn't bite, however, as she sinks an arrow into Aslaug's back. In her final moments, a small grin appears on Aslaug's face hinting that she may have foreseen what chaos was to come.
