10 Buffy The Vampire Slayer Characters Killed Off At The Perfect Time

For all of Buffy's first season and a significant chunk of its second, Jenny Calendar is simply Sunnydale High's magically-inclined Computer Teacher, and a love interest for Buffy's Watcher, Giles.

However, it is eventually revealed that Jenny is a descendant of the Gypsy family who cursed Angel, sent to Sunnydale to keep watch on him. This causes a rift between Jenny and the Scooby Gang, including Giles, when they learn that she knew of the circumstances that could cost Angel his soul and transform him back into Angelus, but did not warn anyone.

Eventually, however, Buffy encourages Giles to make peace with Jenny, as she knew how happy she made him. Unfortunately, this was not to be. Just after uncovering the knowledge of the ritual needed to re-ensoul him, Jenny is killed by Angelus.

Jenny's death happens at just the right time for a couple of reasons. It is a chilling reminder of just how big a threat Angelus is, and delays the Scoobies' discovery of the spell to re-ensoul Angel until Willow recovers Ms. Calendar's research near the end of the season.
