Daredevil is one of Marvels greatest heroes and one of the more multifaceted superheroes. He is a superb athlete and fighter, a good lawyer, an average Catholic and a bad boyfriend. He is a hero as Matt Murdock and as Daredevil, but he does have flaws, and is often beaten. He is also blind. A Daredevil film was released by Fox in 2003. The film received some poor reviews and the lead Ben Afleck received a particularly poor reception for his role. The film appeared to be marketed as a cross between Spider-Man and Batman, which lost some of the mature themes and subtlety of the character. The film itself, particularly the directors cut, is actually quite good. Afleck fits the role of Daredevil, and there are some good if hammy performances by Colin Farrell and the late Michael Clarke Duncan as the villains. There is also a good performance by Jon Favreau of Iron Man fame as Matts legal partner Foggy Nelson. There was some talk of producing a sequel, but Afleck did not want to reprise his role. There was also talk of doing a reboot, but that never eventuated. The film rights to Daredevil have only recently reverted to Marvel. Daredevil lends itself to TV maybe even more so that to film. He does have some super-powered battles, but Daredevil himself is just a human with heightened senses at peak physical condition, so would not need big budget CG. A lot of Daredevils story is as Matt Murdock the lawyer, which makes for good TV by itself. It would be great to see Matt Murdock and Daredevil appear in the new S.H.I.E.L.D. series, further broadening the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
