Lynn graced season 5 of 24 for a total of 9 episodes. An external high ranking official - albeit new to his post - he was sent in to oversee the operations at CTU during the Sentox Nerve Gas Crisis. Within moments of his introduction audiences could be forgiven for assuming he was nothing more than a pretentious, overzealous leader lacking in people skills. Acting as a hindrance a opposed to intended peacemaker, his petty nature was soon examined as his character was given a surprisingly dense 9-episode story arc.

During his time on the show Lynn was allowed to gradually adorn himself to his coworkers, and in doing so to the fans as well. In his short spell with the series his journey saw him earn his respect from viewers as he slowly but surely began to adjust to and ingratiate with the format of CTU.

Given an opportunity to evolve from a leader who is out of his depth, to a character with depth and weight, it culminates in Lynn's sacrificial act mid way through the season. Choosing to intoxicate himself in order to save the lives of the remember people at CTU, his act of bravery simultaneously brought to a close an elegantly written narrow character arc, while also giving our heroes another chance to escape and take the fight back to the terrorists.

Lynn McGill; more vital than immediately given credit for.
