10 Characters From 24 You Totally Didn't Appreciate The First Time
4. Jamey Farrell
Few characters embark on such a roller coaster ride as Jamey. Initially presented as a genuine, sincere computer technician with very little room for development, Jamey evolves quickly into a key turning point during season 1.
Jamey appears in comparatively minor portions of the show, leaving audiences struggling find anything of note to latch onto in terms of character investment. A single mother struggling to make ends meet, she appears little more than a run of the mill complimentary piece.
Audiences soon learn of her deception within CTU during a man-hunt for a mole in the agency. No longer is she the innocent mother. Even as we learn of Nina's manipulation of her family situation it's difficult to invest in her. Despite this however, we are treated to a wealth of character development adding complexity and intrigue. We see just how troublesome home life is, we see the financial hardship she is battling, all of which adds weight.
It didn't matter that she had been naive in her actions, she had done wrong and deserved reprimand. Her violent demise was a harrowing conclusion to her run on the show, though this does not mean we can't re-examine her.
In her naivety she had become foolishly embroiled in a despicable conspiracy, but the reasoning behind her actions should afford you ample justification to take a closer look at her retrospectively. Much of the audience could empathise with her situation - a struggling single mother - and would understand the desire to do whatever it takes to support their children. Jamey had also proven she would go above and beyond for her coworkers, an admirable trait.
She met with an unfortunate end mid way through 24's opening season, making it a challenge to fairly recall her time on the show and the true nature of her character, but upon closer inspection, she is a focal piece of the puzzle with endearing qualities.
