10 Chilling TV Title Sequences That Will Keep You Up At Night

6. Tales From The Darkside (1984-1988)

If you go into the woods today you're sure for a big surprise... The intro to this horror series from the 1980s is subtle. You don't see anything particularly chilling, no monsters, ghouls or ghosts. Instead it plays on the darkest depths of your imagination, the idea that anything you can create in your mind is far worse than what could appear on the screen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mioevxb2CfA Yes the music is very 80s horror but it is still creepy and immediately conjures up the memories of horror films like Halloween or its TV predecessor The Twilight Zone. The voice over is dark and mysterious, tapping into the sense of dread that comes from being scared of the dark. We may be looking at sun dappled fields and trees, but what is most noticeable are the shadows at the very edges of these images. The idea that something evil teeters on the edge of these pleasant images is very apparent indeed. Produced by George A. Romero and featuring stories by acclaimed horror novelists such as Clive Barker and Stephen King, Tales From The Darkside was a place to tell campfire horror stories from the comfort of your sofa. This title sequence perfectly sets the scene. You might be safe, but what lurks out of the corner of your eye?
