Shows like Iron Fist and The Defenders were wrought with criticism when they aired so it wasn't surprising when Netflix cancelled them, but the world was shocked when the streaming service pulled Marvel's Luke Cage from production after the series' second season concluded.

Luke Cage was one of the most critically acclaimed series Marvel and Netflix created, which is why few understood why it was given the axe. When it was cancelled, few details were provided as to the reason, but some rumors about creative differences between Netflix and the series' creators brought the third season discussion to an abrupt halt.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the writers crammed into their spaces to work hard on the third season without an official greenlight from Netflix. Everyone seemed to believe the series would receive a third season order, but work was put on hold after the episode order was cut from 13 to 10.

The turmoil that went on behind the scenes ultimately resulted in the cancellation of the series. Fans who hoped Luke Cage might appear in the third season of Iron Fist lost that dream when that series was cancelled a few weeks later. It appears Luke Cage, alongside other Marvel/Netflix characters, will no longer have a series of any kind on the streaming service either.
