10 Completely Insulting TV Plot Twists
4. Black Siren - Arrow
In the midseason finale of Arrow's fifth season, Laurel Lance made her shocking return to the show after surprisingly being killed off the previous year.
It took approximately 5 minutes for logic to set in.
With the Lazarus Pit destroyed, there was no longer a method for bringing characters back from the dead, so there must be another in-universe explanation.
For fans of The Flash, there was. Shortly after her character's death in Arrow, Katie Cassidy returned on the sister series as the villainous Black Siren, brought from Earth-2 by Zoom. Given how memorable evil Laurel was, she was still fresh in the memories of viewers, and the reveal that Lance was actually working with Prometheus was obvious.
For people that don't watch the Flash, however, it was horribly manipulative. Laurel didn't start the series as a fan favorite, but she grew over time into a powerful badass, and was one of the best parts of the otherwise maligned Season 4. The prospect of a former character taken too soon returning to the show, only to have that hope ripped away, was really not worth the twist it came packaged with.
Instead of saving face by having the reveal happen right away, viewers were manipulated into thinking Laurel was back for way too long, before Siren's deception was uncovered by Felicity of all people.
Cassidy is returning to Arrow full time for Season 6, so hopefully she can build back the goodwill the show's writers robbed her of.
