10 Completely Insulting TV Plot Twists
5. Travis Marshall Is The Doomsday Killer - Dexter
So, Season 6 of Dexter was terrible.
The "iconic" serial killer, and main villain, of the season was the "Doomsday Killer," nicknamed DDK, who would recreate scenes from the Book of Revelations in preparation for the end of the world. It was all rather mundane.
Because this is Dexter, the serial killer is actually "revealed" right away as Professor James Gellar, played wonderfully by Edward James Olmos. He is aided by his meek and somewhat reluctant assistant Travis Marshall, played by Colin Hanks, who at one point realizes the error of his ways and tries to help Dexter take down Gellar.
Then it's revealed that Gellar has been dead the entire time, and Marshall, the real serial killer, has been hallucinating Gellar's existence. If that sounds familiar, then you probably watched any horror movie during the 2000's that received less than a 10% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The plot twist was incredibly obvious and cliched, and a show as smart as Dexter should have absolutely sidestepped such mediocrity. Sticking with Olmos would have salvaged the season, if even slightly.
Furthermore, no disrespect to Colin Hanks intended, but much like his father Tom, the man absolutely cannot and should not play a villain. Marshall tried to poison a police department and sacrifice Dexter's son, but thanks to Hanks' portrayal, there isn't a single second in which we should think he's a believable threat.
