Did someone say "something vaguely comprehensible"?

Hope not, because this entry is about Twin Peaks.

When network television allowed Blue Velvet director/ infamous oddball David Lynch create a prime time series, they really should have seen this show coming.

A surreal headf*** from start to finish, the first two seasons of Mark Frost and Lynch's co-created small screen masterpiece used the murder mystery "who killed Laura Palmer" as an excuse to unveil the strange secrets of the eponymous American everytown, wherein everyone had something to hide and nothing was as it seemed.

A bizarre and impossible-to-categorise mash up of soap opera, murder mystery, police procedural, drama, comedy, surreal horror, and concentrated nightmare juice, Twin Peaks defied genre even before Lynch returned with 2017's triumphantly weird, answer-free disturbing third season The Return.

Difficult, dense, and nigh on impossible to parse, this unparalleled achievement is a testament to the medium of TV's ability to confuse, obsess, and mesmerise its audience.
