The unnamed parasitic beings seen in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Conspiracy, were insect-like creatures that attempted an invasion of the Federation by infiltrating the upper levels of Starfleet Command.

The parasites took complete control of the host's brain and couldn't be removed without killing the host. The host's increased strength and the parasite's protruding gill were the only physical signs of infestation. However, the host's lack of all memories aroused suspicion as the host had to bluff their way through conversations with friends and co-workers.

The parasites were controlled by a 'mother creature', a larger specimen that could live inside a host with dozens of young. The parasites were completely dependent on their mother. Captain Picard and Commander Riker overcame the parasites by killing the mother and her host. However, just before Picard and Riker attacked her, the mother was able to send a signal into space.
