10 Creepy TV Characters You ACTUALLY Root For

2. Hannibal Lecter (Hannibal)

You Want Him To Do It
NBC

It doesn't get much creepier than the thought of someone killing you and consuming your flesh alongside a nice glass of wine, and that's exactly why Hannibal Lecter - including the version played by Mads Mikkelsen on NBC's brilliant Hannibal - has continued to endure as one of pop-culture's most iconic villains.

Killing his victims, mutilating their corpses and displaying their remains in a theatrical manner, Lecter doesn't seem even slightly disturbed or put off by his heinous crimes, and instead, it's almost like he's just going shopping for a fine cut of meat. It's all so pedestrian to him, and it's frightening to consider that someone can carry out such gruesome and disturbing acts without feeling a shred of remorse.

Regardless, Hannibal is someone who, strangely, is possible to admire. There's a seductive quality to not just the overall look and feel of the show, but to Hannibal himself; he's such a sophisticated and well-mannered gentleman - murder aside - that you might even find yourself respecting him, in much the same way that people admire the elegance of the upper-class.

Hannibal is a man of taste and he hates things that are dull or banal, and on some twisted level, there’s something about that which plants you firmly on his side, even though the things he does cannot, in all good sense, be justified.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
