10 Deadliest Alien Prisons In Doctor Who
3. The Pandorica
Designed as 'the perfect prison' for the Doctor, the Pandorica was the stuff of legend - borrowed from the idea of Pandora's Box in Amy Pond's head.
Summoned to Roman-occupied Stonehenge in 102AD, the Eleventh Doctor discovered this prison cube in the Underhenge deep underground. Originally sealed by deadlocks, time stops and matter lines, the Doctor thought the box was re-opening - not realising that he was caught in a trap to place him inside it.
With the trap sprung, the Roman centurions guarding the Pandorica revealed themselves to be Autons and the Doctor was captured. It was then revealed to him that the sinister box had been constructed by an Alliance of the Doctor's greatest foes. This included the Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, Judoon, Silurians, and more.
Wrongly believing that the Doctor was going to destroy the universe, these villains had banded together to entrap him and save themselves. Sealing the Doctor in, they didn't realise that because of this action, the universe would come to an abrupt end.
The Doctor was quickly freed by an Auton duplicate of Rory Williams, who had regained his human consciousness after accidentally killing Amy. The Pandorica could easily be opened from the outside, as it was the Alliance's belief that no one would save him.
Placing the injured Amy within the Pandorica's restorative field, Rory watched over her for centuries as she waited in suspended animation within the box. In 1996, upon the Doctor's instruction, she was awoken by her younger self.
Unfortunately, the Pandorica's restorative powers also resurrected a Dalek which had been turned to stone when the universe ended. Running out of time and realising he had to reboot the universe, the Doctor flew the Pandorica into the TARDIS and created a new 'Big Bang'.
