10 Doctor Who Characters Who Rejected The Doctor

Cheeky chappie Perkins was a friend of the Twelfth Doctor in just a single Series 8 episode - Jamie Mathieson's brilliant Mummy On The Orient Express.

Always ready with a sarcastic comment or a delightful witticism, he was the episode's standout character, and it's no surprise that the Doctor quickly took a liking to him.

This resulted in Perkins being offered a spot on the TARDIS in the episode's final moments. After inspecting the innards of the main console and informing the Doctor that it needs some repairs, the Doctor gives Perkins the chance to do the job himself, which would mean he'd need to stay on the TARDIS for an extended period of time.

However, Perkins - worried that doing so would "change" him in some way - politely turns this offer down, and he and the Doctor say their goodbyes.

It's a shame that we didn't get more of Perkins, and actor Frank Skinner is disappointed at this too. He's a massive Doctor Who fan (he was even watching a Hartnell episode when he got the call to appear on the show) and he once confessed that he wishes Perkins' refusal could be re-filmed with him saying "YES!" instead.

Us too mate. Us too.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
