10 Doctor Who Characters Who Rejected The Doctor

Despite counting as a proper companion, Grace Holloway didn't get a lot of screen time in the Doctor Who world, with the character appearing alongside Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor in the 1996 TV movie, which was just shy of 90 minutes long.

But brief though her stint in the Whoniverse was... it was far from uneventful.

In fact, Grace died. She actually, literally died during a final showdown with the Master, where she was chucked over a balcony, and was unable to survive the impact. Sure, she was then brought back to life by the Eye Of Harmony, but she still experienced actual death, which must've been quite traumatising for her.

This in mind, it's no surprise that she doesn't want to travel with the Doctor any further. When he asks her to come along with him at the end of the story, she refuses, shares a kiss with him, and the two part ways, never to meet onscreen again.

Your life is always going to be in danger when you're around the Doctor, and Grace found that out pretty much straight away. Can't blame her for rejecting him!

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
