10 Doctor Who Companions Who Were Better Than Their Doctors

3. Wilfred Mott (Bernard Cribbins)

If Donna was our first Christmas present, her grandfather, Wilfred Mott, was our second. Wilf is otherwise known as the saving grace of the dripping bags of filth that were Voyage of the Damned and The End of Time, although it€™s not much of an achievement to be better than the tear-slimed bucket of misery that called himself the Tenth Doctor during his final story. Wilf managed to outshine him magnificently throughout, though, and the fact there was so much of him is almost worth the two parter's punishing running times. Almost. Russell T Davies focused on character over plot and Wilf is the ultimate testament to that. While his return was contrived, he was welcomed everywhere for the sheer uplifting nature of his presence. He was introduced alongside Donna and the Nobles proceeded to aptly kick the Time Lord into oblivion for the duration of Series 4. They really were a force to be reckoned with.
