10 Doctor Who Episodes You MUST Watch Before The 60th Anniversary
7. Rose
To get a sense of how RTD’s second stint will feel, where better to look than the story that kicked off his first?
There are already some clear parallels between The Star Beast and Rose. Both stories are set in London, predominantly at night, and feature a character called Rose who stumbles into the world of the Doctor.
But beyond these surface-level similarities there’s something more fundamental about Rose that, by all accounts, will carry over into RTD2: the blend of ordinary and extraordinary.
It’s the first time Doctor Who had properly delved into the domestic, devoting just as much time to the companion and their family as the monster of the week. In this regard, it established the template for every series opener that has followed – and the revived series as a whole.
Thrilling as it is to have Beep the Meep and the Wrarth Warriors making their onscreen debuts, the prospect of some Temple-Noble kitchen sink drama is just as exciting!
