10 Doctor Who Episodes You MUST Watch Before The 60th Anniversary

5. The Day Of The Doctor

The End Of Time Part 2 Doctor Who

In 2013, Steven Moffat was faced with an impossible task: to celebrate 50 years of Doctor Who.

It was pretty touch and go, with Christopher Eccleston ultimately declining to appear. But Moffat made it work, plugging the gap with a brand-new Doctor, brought to life by the legendary John Hurt. And ten years on, The Day of the Doctor is regarded as being on par with, if not better than, the anniversary stories of the classic era.

Right now, it seems unlikely that the 60th will follow suit in terms of being a typical multi-Doctor narrative. After all, we’re getting three specials rather than one, and one Doctor rather than three (with a second Doctor seemingly stuck in regeneration purgatory).

Regardless, as an example of one way to mark a big anniversary (not to mention the fact that it contains David Tennant’s most recent pre-60th Doctor performance), The Day of the Doctor is a fitting choice for a rewatch.
