4. Clara Oswald And Danny Pink

With 12th Doctor Peter Capaldi preferring to kiss gender swapping Time Lords than girls, Series 8 needed a new romantic dynamic and gave companion Clara a new love, former soldier turned maths teacher Danny Pink. Goofy but heroic, Danny turned out to be a great boyfriend, however Clara's addiction to the Doctor's lifestyle created constant problems.

Danny remained loyal, offering Clara a viable alternative to the Time Lord. Despite herself at times, Clara fell in love with him and eventually decided to open up about her double life. However, Danny was tragically killed in a road accident. If this wasn't bad enough, he was then resurrected as a Cyberman by the ever malevolent Missy, the Master's latest incarnation. Even in death, though, Danny's love for Clara knew no bounds and it led to him defying his programming to lead the Cyber army to save mankind.
